Definition
The domain of Eukarya has its origin approximately 1700 million years ago, when photosynthesis was filling the atmosphere with the oxygen we still have, which was poisonous for the majority of the micro-organisms at that time and some prokaryotic cells began to group themselves and to make up larger cells of the nuclear line in search of shelter and food. In exchange they offered a metabolism which was compatible with the new atmosphere. Symbiosis prospered and diversified enormously.
In taxonomy and biology, Eukarya is the realm of cellular organisms with a true nucleus. Some strains of these cells formed colonies, specialised, became interdependent and made up the first multicellular organisms. Thus, the higher organisms such as the plants and animals which now populate the face of the earth arose and, with them, sexual reproduction.
The prosperity of Eukarya was probably so immediate due to the fact that this type of reproduction allows for a wide genetic variability. This stimulates rapid evolutionary change and so allows greater adaptability to new situations.
